HISTORY and STUFF
Our Club was officially chartered by Rotary International on May 9, 1927 and has proudly served the Twin-Tiers Community for over 80 years.
As you look around Elmira Heights, you will see ample evidence of our Club's work in many places:
Oakridge Park has become a center of community activities, with family picnics and vibrant music concerts during the summer. It is a joy to watch folks of all ages dancing in the revitalized park at these events.
Elmira Heights Rotary raised the funds to erect the Bandstand, Picnic pavilion, and a Village clock in the Park. Our Members also plant and maintain decorative flower gardens within Oakwood Park and at the entrance to our community at Oakwood Avenue.
Other Projects include the Picnic Pavilion at the Little League Baseball park on McCann's Blvd.

Annual Scholarships and Awards at Thomas A. Edison H.S. and SCT BOCES.
Our JUNIOR ROTARIAN program that encourages community service and introduces Rotary
to 11th Grade Students at Thomas A. Edison H.S.
Our Backpack Program at Cohen Elementary School distributes healthy food to eligible students
to supplement the Federal reduced and free lunch program on weekends.
Annual Arctic League Packing and a Christmas shopping for needy children in our community.
A Free, Mid-Summer, PICNIC at Oakridge Park to celebrate our Community.
Annual Community Suppers which afford Families and Senior Citizens an opportunity
for an inexpensive meal and social event.
Free Dictionaries are distributed to Students at Cohen and Bradford Central School.
Our annual free "Family Movie Night" at the Heights Theater.
We Sponsor Little League and Youth Softball Teams and donate to many other worthy causes
and Twin-Tiers Charities.
Each year we sponsor the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. RYLA offers exemplary young people in High School and early adulthood, a nationally recognized, several day long, program that encourages
team building and leadership skills.
Outside our immediate Community, Elmira Heights Rotarians are actively involved in Rotary District 7120
which extends Northward from Elmira to Brockport and Sodus and Westward to Friendship NY.
Several of our members serve as District 7120 leaders and over the course of our 80+ year history,
Elmira Heights Rotarians have served three terms as District Governor.
More than 40 years ago, Elmira Heights Rotarians were instrumental in the formation of
a Summer Camp that affords children with a variety of significant disabilities
a completely FREE and unique camping experience at nearby WATSON HOMESTEAD.
11 clubs make up Area One of District 7120. Familiarly called Southern-Tier Area Rotary.
These clubs are: Bath, Canisteo, Chemung County AM, Corning, Elmira, Elmira Heights,
Hammondsport, Hornell, Horseheads, Prattsburgh, and Watkins Glen/Montour Falls.
Our Rotary Clubs work together to fund and support CAMP STAR.
An experienced staff of professionals assures the children are properly cared for and supervised
during the week-long camp which gives their families and care givers a much appreciated respite.
